IBIS Power is an award-winning company providing effective, innovative renewable energy solutions with highest impact to society. Our motto is “Redesigning Renewable Energy”, as we take state-of-the-art technology and transform it into solutions with added value towards a resilient future. We developed already two products which are market ready, and already have ideas about our next ones. The Integrated Wind Roof Energy System (PowerNest) is the breakthrough solution to overcome all shortcomings of existing renewable energy technologies. PowerNest is a roof-mounted, elegant structure with an internal turbine making use of smart aerodynamics. It is more efficient than any free-standing small wind mill, and more efficient per square meter than solar panels from 20m or higher. Most importantly, PowerNest meets important customer’s demands by differentiating in its aesthetically integration and customization possibilities; creating added value as an outstanding, attractive solution. Only recently, IBIS Power has developed its second product: the Remote Wind Energy System (PowerRESPONSE). This is our newest ground breaking innovation, as a reliable, resilient and decentralized energy solution for areas with zero-access to power. By being a mobile, self-deployable and controlling installation and generating power from wind and sun, PowerRESPONSE is the solution to the emerging demand for emergency generators in development, remote, post-disaster, post-conflict or refugee areas, where human health, safety and development is at highest stake. IBIS Power is a fast growing company who has increased from an International and diverse team of four to eleven with still four vacancies to be filled soon. In April 2015, we started the H2020 SME Phase 2 project funded by the European Union where we received a score of 14.35 on scale 15.00, being the second best in Europe. All the topics of our application for our PowerNEST product were granted with Excellent for our technology innovation, sustainability and impact, and business plan to roll out on the European Market. We are currently looking for capital investors and partners in production and distribution to further accelerate and grow, and bring our products to the global market.
IBIS Power was founded on the invention and commercialization of the concept of the Integrated Roof Wind Energy System (PowerNest). Dr. Suma was studying at the College of Engineering of the University of Miami when he made his invention. The ibis is the mascot of the university football team, and of course it makes in a positive way use of the wind like any bird. However, the ibis is a very special bird who is the only animal that can tell exactly where and how the eye of a hurricane is moving. The ibis is the last one to leave its territory and the first to return, and has the highest survival rate. We, as Ibis Power, believe that the ibis is therefore the most weather resilient bird and above all a very elegant one. This is exactly how we look at our products and what we stand for as a company!

    The idea and concept of the Integrated Roof Wind Energy System (PowerNest) was invented by Dr. Alexander Suma in 2008, during his PhD at the University of Miami (FL), the United States. Due to his frustration of hearing continuous air conditioning fans in the street he lived, and realizing how much energy drained through the grid by millions of people living in Miami area, he decided that something had to change. At the same time he saw that the nature in Miami almost exploded from the energy by the sun, rain and wind. He stepped down from the traditional thinking that a building is designed to guard against all external influences, and combined his design and engineering skills to invented an integrated roof that captures wind towards an integrated turbine and with PV cells on top. Later calculations showed that the wind accelerating ducts were far more efficient and he continued to develop this novelty. He showed this to the Vice-Provost of Technology Transfer, Dr. Bart Chernow M.D., and he became immediately enthusiastic, closed all the doors and called in Dr. Neipert as patent expert,  Dr. Fenjves as managing director of the office. He told Dr. Suma that he could not even tell his  own mother as this was one of the biggest inventions he had seen and had the potential to change the world. A few weeks later a patent attorney had written up the first draft patent application and  on June 19th, 2009 the first patent was filed in Washington, and the first publication could be presented on the NSF-CMMI convention in Hawaii. The next two years, PowerNest was tested in wind tunnels by a team of researchers in Miami, and was prepared and  presented as a business proposal to investors and business angels.
    In 2011, Dr. Rossella Ferraro was granted a Marie Curie Fellowship from the EU-FrameWork 7, and selected the Eindhoven University of Technology as a host institution with Dr. Faas Moonen as her mentor. Dr. Suma moved to Europe as he finished his PhD and joined forces. Product development started and after three months was  rewarded with the 55th TU/e anniversary Award for the most promising research at the university. The Valorisation Grant Phase 1 by Dutch Stichting Technology en Wetenschap (STW) provided the means to build a full-scale prototype and carry out a feasibility study. The prototype was built in Maastricht, the Netherlands, and test results indicated an accelerated wind flow between 170% and 260% which confirmed the promised potentials. The R&D programme combining simulations in Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) for aerodynamics studies and Finite Element Method (FEM) for structural optimization together with full-scale prototype testing and validation led to a most efficient technology with optimized product parameters. In 2012, as Dr. Suma focused on the business development ad commercialization of the PowerNest product, the company IBIS Power was founded . Through prestigious awards and recognition, strategic partners were found to support in each step. After receiving the STW Valorisation Grant Phase 2, a newly revised plan was executed. That included finalization of R&D to a type 1.0 product and the focus was on high growth. During each step of the process, close contact with customers and the market was cultivated to collect valuable market input on the product. By making optimal use of market evaluations, prototype testing and validation, IBIS Power is in gear to fast growth to serve a large global market and make substantial green and economic impact on  society and its environment. The beginning of 2015 marked a very important time for IBIS Power, when it excelled on all criteria with an overall score of 14.35 out of 15 and received an important funding in the EU’s Horizon 2020 “SME Instrument” Program. IBIS Power is very grateful to the EU that recognized the value of the integrated renewable energy innovation and solution in moving a big step forward to make Europe green and sustainable including all economic benefits for the European community.
